vicknoise
biographybiografía
Vicknoise is the “nom de guerre” of a young dj and noisemaker from Barcelona
who, in just a few years, has become of the most respected and hotly tipped
dj's of the Spanish scene thanks to his impecable taste and blinding mising
skills. A top producer and remixer, he runs the Factor City label with his
friend Gabriel Berlanga (Undo) as well as holding a residency in Barcelona's
top club, The Loft, and playing constantly around.
Victor Palomo, as he's known to his family, began his exposure to electronic
sounds at the early age of 15; hearing his cousin and his mates play
Autechere's "Incunabula" was a turning point for the young Victor. From then
on he was hooked so it didn't take long for him to become one of those
youngsters attending seminal clubs and collecting bleep techno and
braindance 12's. Absorbing all kinds of sounds and influences, his love for
the early IDM sounds led him to explore the deepest side of electronic
music, from electro to deep techno via early old school hardcore or roman
electronica.... a musical journey which was complemented with some intensive
bedroom mixing. The turn of the century saw he coming out of age via a
sunday's residence at legendary Moog Club where his friend Zero gave him the
opportunity to cut his teeth in front of an eager and amazed audience.
About the same time and as dj gigs started to pop, he started messing around
with his computer in order to make some tracks. Merging his IDM background
with his love for innovative dance grooves, he quickly managed to develope a
sound of his own which he was able to crashtest at his sets. A few labels
showed interest in his stuff (such as the ill-fated Minifunk) but it won't be
until 2002 that things will start to coalesce. In that year he meets Undo,
and soon their initial collaboration leds to the creation of FACTOR CITY,
an outlet for their own productions and basis for their ever-increasing
profile.
The technical skills and mastering of digital production techniques of our
man are perfectly matched by Undo's musicianship: a perfect combination best
witnessed in their 12's such as Noctambula, Happy Monday, Orca or Ten.
Apart from that Vicknoise is always working on his own stuff taking the best
of each medium (the warmth and power of analogue sound, the versatility of
digital technology) to create a unique musical cocktail where past and
future crash to create something hard to find: music for you mind, feet and
soul.
Given that, it's no wonder several artists asked our man to remix his music:
Akufen, Ellen Allien, Trisomie 21, Delorean, Mendetz or Megabeat
are just a few of those who have benefited from Victor's deconstructive skills.
Right now Vicknoise is resident in Barcelona's popular, The Loft as well as
constantly playing all over the Spanish and European geography. He has done
all the major Spanish festivals and venues and keeps a busy schedule that is
rounded up by running the Factor City label and working on some new music
which sure will surprise us all... the future sound of Barcelona is here to
stay.
In 2006 he began playing alongside his mate Undo a powerful live set that
has delighted all technoheads around Spain and Europe. His most recent
productions include a new 12” “Winter on Sunset Boulevard” and a new
collaboration with Undo two years later of their acclaimed “Sonambula EP”.
